day 441 – after celebrating my birthday in poland, christina and i got a train to krakow for a look around. we arrived in the rain and headed to our hotel to check in. we walked around the city for a while and checked out the palace. as we returned to the town square we were confronted with riot police. the riot police were chasing off protesters who had come to cause trouble during a planned gay pride event. i took some photos of the protesters and the gay pride march.
it continued raining so we decided to head to the hotel and relax, check email and sleep.
day 442 – the rain continued to pour down, so we checked out and went to the main shopping centre. i bought a hard drive (to back up photos) and we walked around to kill time while we waited for our train back to gliwice.
in the evening we bought dinner for sylwia’s family to say ‘thank you’ for looking after us. i had a giant steak (yummy!) and was very full afterwards. we packed and got ready for an early start the next morning.
day 443 – christina and i had breakfast with sylwia and her family. they dropped us at the train station and we got our train to berlin. the trip was nice and we went to our hotel. we checked in then walked around the neighbourhood near our hostel. i had some chicken and chips for dinner, then spent the evening backing up photos.
day 444 – today was ‘explore berlin’ day. we got away early and went to the sony centre in the city. we had a beer at an aussie pub and then went to see parts of the berlin wall. we walked through the very interesting holocaust memorial, past hitler’s bunker and got a tram across town. then we went to the nuremburg gate and walked around the berlin tower. we had done a lot of walking, and we were tired, so we headed back to the hotel for the evening.
day 445 – in the morning we bought a museum pass so that we could see the museums cheaply. we headed to museum island and wandered around the three museums. it was pretty cool to se the famous nefritit bust (which was on the cover of a history textbook when i was a kid). we had subway for lunch and christina annoyed me because of the way she gets when she’s hungry. i describe her as becoming the hulk when she’s hungry and we had a small fight about it.
we returned to the berlin tower for another look around and to take some photos. then we went back to the hotel, picked up our packs and headed to the bus station. we had bought tickets to copenhagen and had to change buses in hamburg. the bus had a problem and we were stuck there for hours waiting until they could get another bus. the bus arrived really late and we finally got started for the trip to copenhagen.
